Meet Durian, the tiny rescued kitten taking Bangkok by storm on a scooter..
Every now and then, an animal rescue story comes along that completely melts our hearts. If you are looking for a reason to smile today, you have found it in a tiny, three-month-old tortoiseshell tabby named Durian. This little bundle of joy has transformed from an abandoned stray into Bangkok's most famous, scooter-riding commuter.
Durian's journey did not start out easy. He was born into a litter of five kittens, but sadly, only three survived. The vulnerable little feline was first spotted by an elderly caretaker working near the Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station in Bangkok, Thailand. The caretaker looked after him, but it was his nephew, Sawanawat Bell, who fell head over heels in love and decided to adopt the gorgeous kitten.
However, Sawanawat faced a big dilemma that many pet lovers will find relatable. His small dormitory simply wasn't suitable for a growing, energetic kitten. Instead of giving up on the rescue, Sawanawat came up with a brilliant, heartwarming solution to give Durian the best possible life.
'The environment at my dorm wasn't really suitable for keeping a pet, so I brought the little one home and take him along every day,' she said.
Now, Durian's daily routine is anything but ordinary. Dressed in a stylish pink collar, this confident little feline perches right at the front of Sawanawat’s scooter. Together, they cruise around the bustling subway station, with Durian completely relaxed and soaking in the sights.
He has become an absolute favourite among the locals. Station workers, shopkeepers, and daily commuters all take turns keeping him company, playing with him, and showering him with love. Sawanawat shares that it feels like the clever kitten knows almost everyone there, and the daily socialisation has helped him grow from a frail rescue into a healthy, playful, and energetic boy. He is even starting to practice his little jumps!
Durian's adventures show us the incredible impact of community animal rescue. When we open our hearts to wildlife appreciation and pet welfare, amazing things happen. Sawanawat didn't let a small living space stop him from saving a life. Instead, he created a beautiful routine that brings joy to an entire station—proving that it truly takes a village to raise a happy kitten!
