Meet Wongtem Ko, a 50-year-old garbage collector in Bangkok who proves that you do not need a mansion to create a palace of love. But he is not alone; this cosy, moving sanctuary is shared with 12 beautiful stray cats he has lovingly adopted over the years. Wongtem did not start his journey as an expert in pet behaviour, and his path was paved with emotional challenges. In the early days, he faced the devastating heartbreak of losing several feline companions to preventable illnesses. Refusing to give up on his beloved street friends, he sought advice from a local vet who taught him the vital importance of vaccinations and deworming. Armed with this new knowledge, Wongtem successfully transformed his approach to animal welfare, ensuring his beautiful clowder of rescues now live healthy, vibrant lives right by his side.
For Wongtem, leaving these vulnerable creatures behind is simply not an option. He regularly rescues abandoned felines from local markets, knowing that without his intervention, many would struggle to survive the harsh realities of the streets.
